Sweet William and Rue

by llamajoy

a villanelle for grissom and billy lee black

when you go down through yonder town,
sing ivy leaf, sweet william and thyme,
give my respects to that young man,
and he shall be a true lover of mine

when you, in slumber, open dreaming's door,
seek never to explain, but drink your fill--
call me by name, for we have met before.

in winter, sip spiced wine with me, implore
the fire-warm hearths to banish wintry chill,
when you, in slumber, open dreaming's door.

in springtime, let your beating heart explore
the cadence of the flowers on the hill;
call me by name, for we have met before.

in summer, ride before me on my horse,
your hair windblown, your laugh a quiet thrill,
when you, in slumber, open dreaming's door.

in autumn, walk along a cobbled shore,
one cloak between us 'gainst the rainy spill;
call me by name, for we have met before.

i am content to love you evermore,
if you should look on me and say you will.
when you, in slumber, open dreaming's door,
call me by name, for we have met before.

(author's note: *pantpant* those suckers are HARD! and i only cheated a rhyme once. ^^;
dedicated to my angel, without whose words this never would have been.)
